Spot Reducing for Balanced Weight Loss -- An Illusion
Human Beings are highly dissatisfied souls when it comes to the shape of their bodies. Bulging hips, sagging arms, thick waistline, protruding abdomen, unattractive buttocks%u2026 there is always a spot in the body that is out of proportion. Obsession for model-perfect bodies has had many try a range of weight-reduction programs, including tummy-reducing belts and undergarments, available in the market today. People also choose to hire qualified Boot Camp Rozelle to this end. The latest and the fast-spreading of the lot is spot reduction. Spot reduction is concentrated fat reduction, which means burning fat in a specific body part. As with most misleading weight-loss programs, spot reduction too, is a misconception.
Understanding Spot Reduction
Spot reduction revolves around the concept that by exercising a specific group of muscles, one can reduce the excess fat in that area, and thus tone the area. For example, people with a paunch are often found to focus solely on abdominal exercises, which they believe would lead to fat reduction around the stomach.
Why Spot Reduction is Ineffective
Reality refutes this popular myth of focused fat reduction. It is not possible to achieve a perfectly toned abdomen by just concentrating on abdominal workouts. This is simply because the human anatomy is designed so; the fat surrounding a particular body part, say the abdomen does not belong to the abdominal muscles at all. Even your Personal Trainer Rozelle will advise you the same. So, logically speaking, those rigorous abdominal workouts you perform, while strengthening your abdominal muscles, will in no way reduce the fat enveloping the Muscle.
One may notice that some areas of the body burn fat more readily than others. Such development should not however be attributed to spot reduction; this is solely a case of genetics and sex of the individual. In men, fat tends to gather around their bellies while in women it is the region of hips and buttocks. If the concept of spot reduction were to be applied here, then similar gluteal workouts should burn out the fat in this region and should translate into firmer buttocks in both men and women. But, in reality buttocks are the last place where women lose their fat while in men it is faster.
Why Avoid Spot Reducing?
Since the mass of fat surrounding the targeted region does not really belong to the neighboring muscle group, spot reduction doesn't deliver desired results. Moreover, you cannot determine which body part is really losing its fat. The fat burnt may belong to any part of the body, which may not be desirable. This may turn harmful in case of exercise products that claim to dissolve 'local fat'. Despite vehement advocacy by several exercise product manufacturers, there is no authentic spot reducing technology, except liposuction, (which involves mechanical removal of fat) that successfully eliminates fat from a desired body location.
What is recommended?
A combination of cardiovascular exercises and strength training, performed regularly, helps burn body fat quickly. Guidance of a certified Outdoor Fitness Rozelle is recommended. A balanced diet, including fresh vegetables and fruits, is a great way to keep fit.
